Barbara May Jones, a cherished soul known affectionately as Barbara to her friends and family, passed away peacefully on November 12, 2024, at her birthplace in Webb, Alabama, surrounded by the love and warmth of her family. Born on May 9, 1949, Barbara's life was a testament to her generous spirit, her unwavering faith, and her selfless devotion to her loved ones.
Barbara grew up on the family farm in Webb, a foundation that instilled in her the values of hard work and commitment to community. She carried these values throughout her life, touching the hearts of everyone she met. She was a beacon of light at Faith Christian Academy in Webb, where she worked with a passion that inspired both her colleagues and students. Barbara also taught at Grace Bible Academy of Dothan, where she was revered as a nurturing educator and a steadfast mentor.
Her commitment to education continued as she served as a Learning Center Monitor and testing supervisor, guiding countless young minds towards brighter futures. Barbara's dedication to her work was only rivaled by her devotion to her family and her faith. She was an active and beloved member of Victory Baptist Church, where she played the piano, filling the church with music that uplifted the spirits of all who heard it.
Barbara's love for her family knew no bounds. She was a devoted wife to her late husband, James E. "Jimmy" Jones, and together they shared a love that was a source of strength and inspiration to their children, Aimee Jones Berryman (Michael) and James E. Jones, Jr. (Milene). Her legacy of love and compassion continues through her grandchildren, James III, Lauren, Melany, Ashley, and Alaina, to whom she was not only a grandmother but also a guide and confidante.
Though she was preceded in death by her daughter Shannon Jones, her parents Avery Clinton May and Mavis Lane May, her sister-in-law Donna May, and her husband, Barbara's spirit of generosity and care lives on through her brothers, Butch (Mary) May, Jackie May, and Joe (Teresa) May. Her family stands as a testament to the love and values she so deeply instilled.
Barbara's interests reflected her joy in life's simple pleasures. She was an avid gardener, finding peace and contentment in the beauty of nature. Her love for the outdoors was also evident in her fondness for fishing in the pond on their property, a pastime that brought her immense joy and tranquility. Family and friends will fondly remember the laughter and fellowship shared at the fish fries Barbara so enjoyed hosting.
To describe Barbara as generous, faith-filled, and selfless is to capture only a glimpse of the profound impact she had on those around her. Her life was a living example of these virtues, and she was a guiding light to all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Barbara May Jones will be deeply missed, yet her spirit will continue to live on in the hearts of those she touched. Her life was a beautiful melody of love, faith, and service that will resonate for generations to come. As we bid farewell to this remarkable woman, we take comfort in the knowledge that her legacy is one of enduring love and unwavering faith. Barbara's journey on this earth has concluded, but her story will be told for years to come, a narrative of a life well-lived and a woman well-loved.
