Barry DeWayne McKenzie, a resident of Dothan, passed away on February 17, 2021. He was 56.
A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, February 20, 2021 at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home Chapel with Bishop Gilbert Wommack and Walter Wilson officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour prior to service. The family requests that all visitors follow the current CDC guidelines.
Barry was born in Polk County, Florida on October 30, 1964 to the late Ephraim and Polly McKenzie. He was employed with Cheyenne Steel and previously owned McKenzie Commercial Tire. Barry was an extremely hard-working man and took pride in providing for his family. He was a loving and dedicated husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. Barry always saw the good in others and never met a stranger. He had natural leadership qualities and was committed to helping others. Barry was an active member in Narcotics Anonymous where he found joy in serving and inspiring those on the road to recovery. Barry loved the Lord and he and his wife were long time members of Eddins Road Pentecostal Ministry where he taught Sunday school. Barry will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Barry was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Chad McKenzie; and his sister, Lisa Whiddon Crawford.
He is survived by his loving wife, Anisa McKenzie; his children, Brandon (Christie) McKenzie, Eric (Jessie) McKenzie, Miranda McKenzie, and Caleb (Lonna) Durrance; his seven grandchildren, Hope McKenzie, SummerRain McKenzie, Natalina McKenzie, Scott McKenzie, ChadLeigh Jones, Karleigh Cannon, and Kynleigh Durrance; his four siblings, Mary Alice Heath, Tommy (Joyce) McKenzie, Toni (Allen) Alphord, and Paula (Gilbert) Wommack; a host of extended family and friends; and his special K-9 companion, Libby Belle.
