Beatrice Irene Thornton
Beatrice Irene Thornton entered into eternal rest on November 15, 2014 at the age of 105 years. She was born in Carnegie, Oklahoma to James and Susan Finch. She was third in a family of seven children, five brothers and one sister. After her mother passing away in 1917, she and a younger brother were adopted and raised by another family. She was married in 1936 to Samuel Kenton Rudolph in San Francisco and later moved to Los Angeles. They had two sons, which both preceded in her in death. Her first husband passed away in 1950. She remained a widow until 1958 when she married William Thornton. They remained living in Los Angeles where Bill Thornton passed away in 1973. She retired from May Company in Los Angeles in 1974. In 1978 she moved to Carson City, Nevada where she became active in the Senior Center under R.S.V.P. and made baby quilts which were sold in the center.
About 1998, she moved to Harlingen, Texas to be near her brother, Wayne, and his wife. In 2004, she moved to Ocala, Florida and lived with her niece and husband, Carol and John Wade, after the passing of her only surviving brother and sister-in-law. In 2006, she moved with the Wade's to Clayton, Alabama and lived with them until her passing. She was a member of Clayton Baptist Church and attended on a regular basis until her eyesight and hearing declined. She enjoyed her yearly birthday parties and kept all of the cards which she had received.
She is survived by niece and husband, Carol and John Wade of Clayton, Alabama; nephew, James Finch of Ocala, Florida; half-sister, Marian Laird of Port Richey, Florida; and several great nieces and great nephews.
Byrd Funeral Home of Dothan is handling local arrangements. Her wish is to be buried in Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Glendale, California next to two sons and husband who preceded her in death.
