Ben Eugene Thornton, age 83, of Coffee Springs, AL, passed away, Wednesday, April 9, 2014 at his home.
Funeral services will be held at 2:30 P.M., Friday, April 11, 2014 at Searcy Funeral Home and Crematory Chapel with Rev. C. P. Davis and Rev. David Bradshaw officiating. Burial will follow in the Ino Baptist Church Cemetery with Searcy Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends from 1:00 P.M. until service time on Friday at the funeral home. Flowers will be accepted or memorial donations may be made to the First Baptist Church of Coffee Springs Mission Fund, PO Box 98, Coffee Springs, AL 36318.
Mr. Thornton was an ordained deacon at First Baptist Church, Coffee Springs, where he loved his church and church family. He was a skilled carpenter and loved to take old houses and restore them to their original beauty. He never met a stranger and loved his family. His grandchildren were very special to him.
Mr. Thornton was preceded in death by his parents, Charlie Ben and Julia Thornton, sisters, Katie Wise, Bessie Bullard, Ruby Dean, Beatrice Martin and brothers, John Thornton, Clarence Thornton and Edward Thornton.
Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Mary Annie Davis Thornton; daughter, Charlotte A. Jones; son, William E. Thornton (Cathy), all of Coffee Springs; five grandchildren, Gunter, Garret, Saige, Ryder and Megyn Thornton; four great-grandchildren, Evin, Easton, Hudson, and Ryleigh; several nieces and nephews.
