Mr. Benny F. “Ben” Jackson, age 84, a resident of Cottonwood, died Saturday, August 12, 2017 at his residence with his family by his side.


Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, 2:00 P.M., August 15, 2017 at First Freewill Baptist Church of Dothan, 1461 Timbers Drive. Reverend John Smith will be officiating. The burial will follow at Memory Hill Cemetery with Ward Wilson Funeral Home directing. The family will be receiving friends at the church prior to services on Tuesday from 12:00 P.M until 1:45 P.M.


Ben was born on January 7, 1933, in Houston County, the son of Walter D. and Kate Brackin Jackson. At a young age, Ben learned the value of hard work. In April of 1963, Ben founded Jackson Gas and Electric Service Inc. along with his brother Ed Jackson which is still run by the Jackson family today.


Ben enjoyed spending time with his wife of 64 years, Marion and graciously and selflessly loved his family. He was passionate about horses and could often be found trail riding or loading the wagon up with grandchildren and great-grandchildren on a Sunday afternoon. Ben was also a member of the Restless Riders, the Boots and Saddle Club, and Union Hill Baptist Church of Cottonwood.


He is preceded in death by Walter D. Jackson and Kate Brackin Jackson, two sisters, two brothers, and his son-in-law Jeffrey Allgood.


Survivors include his wife Marion Cook Jackson of Cottonwood; his children Bobby Jackson (Alisa) of Dothan, Kenny Jackson (Cathy) of Cottonwood, and Charlotte Allgood of Dothan; his sisters Beulah Morgan of Tumbleton and Rose Shelley (Harold) of Dothan; his grandchildren Angela Brannon (Timothy), of Newton, Natalie Jackson (Eddie), of Dothan, Jeffrey Jackson (Becky), of Cottonwood, Hope Sewell (Keith), of Dothan, Courtney Hart, and EmilyAnne Hart, both of Dothan and Cole Maund of Dothan; his 9 great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, and a host of other family and friends.


Serving as pallbearers will be Joey Floyd, Glen Morgan, Mark Jackson, Kevin Jackson, Timothy Brannon, and Eddie Donaldson, Jr.


The family is accepting flowers or a contribution can be made to the charity of your choosing.
