HEADLAND…. Mr. Benny Sims, a resident of County Road 3, Headland, died Tuesday morning, September 18, 2018 at his home. He was 70.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Friday, September 21, 2018 in the Earl Bankston Memorial Chapel with Pastor Scotty Scott and Pastor Jason Miller officiating. Eulogies will be given by Reid Dove and Brian Lindsey. Derek L. Wright and Fuqua-Bankston Funeral Home of Ozark is in charge of arrangements. The family will receive friends from 4:30 until 7:00 P.M. Thursday at the funeral home in Ozark. At other times, the family will be at the family residence in Headland.
Mr. Sims, son of the late Paul Frank Sims and Jeanette Carlile Sims, was a native and lifelong resident of Headland. He served on the Board of Directors for Dothan Southern League for over twenty-five years, coached baseball, softball, football, and basketball. Mr. Sims served as an umpire for the 1996 Little League World Series in Dothan and was Umpire in Chief for District 6, State of Alabama. He was employed with AAA Cooper Transportation for fifty-two years as a rate analyst. Mr. Sims was a member of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church in Grimes. He was preceded in death by a great-granddaughter, Cassie Malllory.
Surviving relatives include his wife, Sue White Sims, Headland; two daughters, Sandie Sims Rigsby (Tim), Headland and Jeanie Sims Barbour (Charles), Midland City; two sons, Gene Sims and J.P. Sims, both of Headland; two brothers, Wayne Sims (Paula), Birmingham and Charles Sims (Sheila), Cowarts; ten grandchildren; five great-grandchildren.
Serving as active pallbearers will be his grandsons.
