Bernell Smith, 96, of Eufaula, AL went to be with the Lord on her birthday, November 17, 2024. Mrs. Smith was born on November 17, 1928 in Slocomb, AL to the late Arthur Snell and Ella Buxton Snell. She was born number 8 of 9 children. She married Doyal Smith on May 27, 1944. They worked for many years in different sewing factories. In her older years, she worked as the dairy manager for IGA in Eufaula until her retirement. Outside of her work, she was a wonderful homemaker always making sure her family felt loved in her home. Mrs. Smith was best known for her cooking, whether it be the huge spreads she put out for family dinners or her delicious chocolate and peanut butter cakes. One of her greatest joys in life was being “Granny” to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In 2018, Mrs. Smith went to live with her granddaughter in Olive Branch, MS when her dementia began to progress. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Doyal Smith; her daughter, Lorraine Myers; and her 8 siblings. She is survived by her granddaughter, Tracy Myers Bender; grandson, Scott Myers; great-grandchildren: Mason Money, Callie Rae Eldred (Ethan), Ed Bender (Mary Anne), Dylan Myers (Hannah), Ethan Bender, and Hudson Myers; and great-great-grandchildren: Paisley Myers, Baylor Myers, Walker Eldred, Evelynn Eldred, Raelynn Eldred, and Waylon Eldred who is on the way and will not get to meet his Granny. A graveside service will be held at Gardens of Memory in Headland, AL on Saturday, November 23, 2024 at 12:00 pm. Brantley Funeral Home in Olive Branch, MS is in charge of arrangements with Holman Mortuary assisting in Headland.
