On June 29, 2020 Bernice Thomas McElroy transitioned from the life and gained her heavenly wings.

Mrs. McElroy was born on May 16, 1959 in Dothan to her loving parents, Henry and Mae Helen Thomas. She was a 1979 graduate of Northview High School and graduated from Wallace Community College with an associate degree. Mrs. McElroy was a dedicated Christian and was highly active in Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church. She was a Sunday School teacher, President of the Intercessory Prayer Group, was a Deaconess, and started the breakfast ministry, feeding the church before Sunday School on Sunday mornings. She enjoyed attending the Joyce Meyers Conferences and led Testimony Saturdays at Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church. Mrs. McElroy loved her family dearly, especially her 3 grandchildren that she adored. She loved hosting family gatherings at her home on special occasions, especially Thanksgiving. Mrs. McElroy enjoyed going to the movies and traveling to Destin for family time. She was Director of the Ebony Pageant, where the goal was to raise scholarship money for deserving young women for college. Mrs. McElroy worked at Flowers Hospital for several years. Her daily words of encouragement to anyone she encountered were, “Enjoy your day on purpose and with purpose.”
Survivors include her husband of 36 years, James McElroy; her son, Tyler McElroy; her daughters, Amy (Anthony) Ware and Gelisicia McElroy; her 3 grandchildren, Austin Ware, Avery Ware, and Nevaeh McElroy; her brother, Henry (Rose) Thomas, Jr.; her sisters, Jeaniece Thomas Lewis, Debra (Donald) Nearer, and Shelia Thomas; and a host of nieces and nephews.
