Bertha Mae Brascom passed away Saturday, March 29th at her residence. She was 77.

Mrs. Brascom was born May 16, 1936 in Pike County, Alabama to the late Marshall and Ollie Mae Ship and lived the early part of her life in Troy. She moved to Dothan in 1966 and was a homemaker and loved to work in her garden. She joyfully served as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses for more than 47 years and was a member of the South Park Congregation.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three daughters, Louise Brascom Willie Mae Brascom and Johnnie Mae Brascom; two granddaughters, Isis Brascom and Brittany Brascom; five brothers, Jack Ship, Arthur Lee Ship, Marshall Ship, Jr., Eddie C. Ship and Willie Frank Shipman.

Survivors include her husband Homer Brascom Sr.; her children Bertha Lee Thompson, Atlanta, GA, Mary Powe, Katie Brascom, Ollie Brascom, Ellen Brascom, Priscilla Brascom, Dothan, AL, Homer Brascom Jr., Troy, AL, Tyrone Brascom, Atlanta GA, Benjamin Brascom, Jacksonville FL; five sisters, Rosie Lee Weatherspoon, Tallahassee FL, Minnie Lee Brascom, Palmetto FL, Lizzie Leath, Dothan AL, Janie Lee Seymore, Atlanta GA, Alice Mae Cowart, Goshen AL; a brother Early Ship; twenty grandchildren and a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, cousins, her spiritual brothers and sisters, and a very special friend Pearl Lee.

Funeral services will be 2 pm Friday, April 4, 2014 at Sunset Funeral Home with Keith Newby officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park with Robert Byrd directing. The family will receive friends from 5-6 pm Thursday at the funeral home.
