Bette Maxine Duke Brooks, 77, widow of Franklin M. Brooks, SR of Cottonwood, Alabama, passed away Thursday, July 2, 2015 at Southeast Alabama Medical Center surrounded by her loving family.


Funeral services will be held at 2:30 P.M. Sunday, July 5, 2015 at Union Hill Baptist Church with Reverend Kyle Johnson and Reverend Jimmy Bolin officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Southern Heritage Funeral Home directing.


The family will receive friends from 1:30 P.M. until 2:30 P.M. Sunday at the church prior to the services and at other times will be at the home of Bucky and Melinda Brooks in Cottonwood.


Bette was a daughter of the late John Irwin and Pennie Barnes Duke. She was retired from TGY Department Store following fifteen years of service and also owned and operated the Lighthouse Ceramics for several years following her retirement. She was a faithful member of Union Hill Baptist Church.


Surviving are four sons and daughters-in-law, Franklin M. Brooks, JR, Cottonwood, AL, Curtis O’Neal (Phyllis) Brooks, Elba, AL, John Dewayne (Stephana) Brooks, Dothan, AL and Delmar Rudolph Bucky (Melinda) Brooks, Cottonwood, AL;  seven grandchildren and ten great grandchildren.
