Betty Bender, 87, of Dothan passed away Tuesday, May 8, 2012 at her residence.
Memorial services will be 11 am Saturday, May 12, 2012 at First United Methodist Church with Dr. Jim Sanders and Rev. Dwight Deal officiating and Robert Byrd directing. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Covenant Hospice, 104 Rock Bridge Rd., Dothan, AL, the Alzheimer’s Resource Center, P.O. Box 1170, Dothan, AL, 36302, or to the First United Methodist Church, 1380 W. Main St., Dothan, AL.
Mrs. Bender was born September 16, 1924 in Erie, PA. She was married to Lawrence "Bud" Bender on November 19, 1943 in Corpus Christi, TX, accompanying him throughout his 36 year military career. She enjoyed cooking and sewing and spending time with her family. She was a member of FUMC teaching Sunday school for 46 years and as a part of the choir. Betty was a longtime part of Southeast Alabama Community Theater, PEO, and the United Methodist Women. She was preceded in death by her brother William Hanson.
Survivors include her husband Lawrence "Bud" Bender of Dothan; children, Barbara (Lou) Jinright, Vicki (Dwight) Deal, Judy (Rudy) Johnson, and Robyn (Ken) Johnson; grandchildren, Justin (Beth) Jinright, Travis (Angie) Jinright, Nichole (Bill) Morton, Dwight (Gwen) Deal, II, Michelle (Murray) Sandlin, Tara (Tony) Pazzaglia, Mathew (Kellan) Bryan, Zachary Bryan, and Joshua Bryan; 10 great-grandchildren; a sister Mary Sanders.
