ABBEVILLE. . .Betty Harpe Lovett, a resident of Abbeville, died Sunday morning, February 5, 2017, in a Dothan hospital. She was 88.


            Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, February 7, 2017, in the Calvary Baptist Church with Reverend Teddy Ward officiating. Burial will follow in the Abbeville Memorial Cemetery. Holman-Abbeville Mortuary & Cremations is in charge of arrangements. The family will receive friends from 9:30 until 11:00 A.M. Tuesday in the church sanctuary.


            In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Calvary Baptist Church “Playground Fund”, 310 Dothan Road, Abbeville, Alabama 36310


            Mrs. Lovett was born in the Brown’s Crossroads community of Henry County and moved to Abbeville with her family as a child. She was a charter member of the Calvary Baptist Church, the W.M.U., formerly sang in the church choir and taught Sunday School. Mrs. Lovett retired as a secretary from the Henry County Board of Education. She was preceded in death by her parents, Edward Cody Harpe and Hazel Beatrice Herring Harpe, her husband, Thomas Eugene Lovett, a daughter-in-law, Lisa Lovett, a sister, Peggy Stokes, and a special cousin, Lucy Jane Pope.


            Surviving relatives include two daughters, Jane Lovett Steele (Denny), Abbeville; and Sue Lovett Tillis (Allen), Shorterville; two sons, Michael Lovett and Edward Lovett (Pennye), all of Dothan; eight grandchildren, Jason Steele (Katie), Kelli L. Shirley (Griffin), Robyn T. Temples (Jerry), Cody Lovett (Heather Fulford), Courtney Lovett (Andrew Byrd), Jordan Lovett (Desarae Roland), Nicole Tillis  (Jonathan Hansing) and Logan Lovett (Elizabeth); eight great-grandchildren, Maddie Steele, Mason Steele, Macy Kate Steele, Elizabeth Brandt, Easton Temples, Elsie Shirley, Lottie Shirley and Weslyn Lovett; special cousin, Jackey T. Harpe and wife, Cleta; special friends, Bruce and Linda Belcher and Beverly Harris.


            Serving as active pallbearers will be Jason Steele, Griffin Shirley, Cody Lovett, Logan Lovett, Jordan Lovett, Bill Norton, Grad Stokes, Jim Stokes, Dr. Steve Stokes, Jimmy Norton, Mason Steele, Jerry Temples.
