DOTHAN. . .Betty Rae Helms Marnon, a resident of Dothan, died Tuesday night, June 28, 2016. She was 80.


            A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 A.M. Saturday, July 2, 2016, in the St. Columba Catholic Church with Father Patrick Gallagher officiating. Graveside services will follow in the Corinth Baptist Church Cemetery, near Texasville, with Father David Shoemaker officiating.  Holman-Headland Mortuary & Cremations is in charge of arrangements. The family will receive friends from 4:30 until 7:00 P.M. Friday at the mortuary in Headland.


            Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to the St. Columba Catholic Church Facilities Improvement Fund, 2700 W. Main Street, Dothan, AL 36301.


            Mrs. Marnon was born and reared in Texasville, Alabama, daughter of the late Codie Abram Helms, Sr. and Fannie Lou Norton Helms. Upon graduation from Blue Springs High School in 1954, she became employed with the U. S. Government for thirty years to include the F.B.I. in Washington, D.C., the General Services Administration in Boston, the U. S. Army at Ft. Benning and was also employed as a Claims Representative with the Social Security Administration in the Dothan office from 1981 until 1995 when she retired.  She and her husband moved to Dothan in 1987 where she was a member of the St. Columba Catholic Church. She was preceded in death by three sisters, Mildred Helms, Ruby Helms and Tommie Lou Sumption and her husband, Sgt. Major (Ret.), George S. Sumption, and three brothers, Norman Helms, Ralph Helms and Codie Helms, Jr.


            Surviving relatives include her husband, Col (Ret) Donald James Marnon, U. S. Army, and City Manager, Dothan, 1987-1994; a daughter, Donna Christiansen (Clayton), Granbury, Texas; a son, Col (Ret) Paul Victor Marnon, U. S. Army, and wife, Bettyna, Dublin, California; four grandchildren, Sean Christiansen, Mark Christiansen, Jacob Marnon and Grace Marnon; sisters-in-law, Ludie Helms and Gloria Helms, both of Clayton; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law from the Marnon family, Ann and Peter Scheele, Greg and Margie Marnon, Tom Marnon and Gerald Marnon.


            Serving as active pallbearers will be Sean Christiansen, Mark Christiansen, Jacob Marnon, Grace Marnon, Jack DiTonno, and Austin DiTonno.
