Betty Jean Gullatt Hogg entered the Gates of Heaven on December 3, 2014 and was reunited through Jesus Christ, our Lord, with her husband of more than sixty years, Wynnton Hogg, and other beloved family members and friends. She was born, November 27, 1932, at her childhood home in Phenix City, Alabama to Pleas Earl and Hazel Bernice Tatum Gullatt. She and Wynnton moved to Dothan where they raised their three girls. The family’s church home was the former Trinity Presbyterian Church. Betty was an awesome mother and homemaker who did not work outside the home until her daughters were grown. Betty’s career started as a lark when she and several of her friends took a temporary job, pricing merchandise for World Bazaar, an import store that was soon to open at Porter Square Mall. Before the store opened, the owner had noted Betty’s leadership skills and hired her as the manager and eventually the manager of three stores. She worked for a time at JCPenney and Florida Microfilm, then retired from Sony Corporation. Her strength and devotion to her family provided a role model for all that knew her. In her retirement, Betty enjoyed her expanded family with pure, unconditional love.
Betty is survived by daughters: Debbie (Tom) Russell, Myra (Merle) Schwalen and Lisa Hogg; grandchildren: Jordan Sloop, Chris (Holly) Sloop and Kyle Hughes; great grandchildren: Aida Hughes, Marley Sloop and Pearce Sloop; sister: Claudine Bloodworth, loving friend Olivia Parker, and several nieces and nephews and their families.
Flowers or donations to the Alzheimer’s Resource Center (1314 Westgate Parkway, Suite 2, Dothan, AL 36303) are appreciated. A visitation will be held at Ward Wilson Funeral Home at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 6th, followed by a graveside service at 11:00 a.m. at Memory Hill Cemetery with Ricky Parker, family friend, officiating. Pallbearers include Courts Ridley, Brandon Mayfield, Jimmy Clark, Wes Cox and Creighton Daughtry, who all held a special place in “MeMe’s” heart.
