Betty Jo West, 81, of Dothan passed away Monday, July 23, 2012 at a local hospital.

Private graveside services will be held at Memory Hill Cemetery with Rev. Larry Newton and Rev. Ed Blackmon officiating. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Children’s Hospital in Birmingham.

Mrs. West was born August 11, 1930 in Dale County to the late Frank and Lillian Thompson and lived the early part of her life in the Sylvan Grove Community attending Dale County Schools. She was employed with Rehobeth School for nearly 30 years prior to her retirement in the early 90’s. Mrs. West and her late husband, David, founded D&J Nursery and she helped with the day to day operations until her recent illness. She was a member of Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband David E. West, and a granddaughter Bethany West.

Survivors include her sons, Stanley West and his wife Carla of Dothan, Patrick West of Dothan, Michael West and his wife Donna of Dothan; grandchildren, Tonya Holland and her husband Mike of Dothan, Torri West of Huntsville, Emily West of Dothan, Sgt. Zane G. West of Dothan, Gethe West of Dothan, Jade West of Dothan, Lillian West of Dothan; great-grandchildren, Abby and Reid Holland, Paydon West, Hudson Lassiter, Carson West, and Gage West all of Dothan.
