HEADLAND. . .Betty Rice Wheeler, a resident of Headland, died Saturday, December 13, 2014, at her home. She was 62.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Monday, December 15, 2014, in the Holman-Headland Mortuary Chapel with Reverend Jim Corley officiating. Burial will follow in the Camp Springs Baptist Church Cemetery, near Columbia. The family will receive friends from 3:00 until 5:00 P.M. Sunday at the mortuary in Headland.
Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to the Camp Springs Baptist Church, c/o Sharon Elliottt, 12039 County Road 53, Columbia, AL 36319.
Mrs. Wheeler was born in East Prairie, Missouri, daughter of the late J. T. Rice and Eva Louise Gunter Rice. She lived in Immokalee, Florida most of her adult lifetime before moving to the Headland area in 2004. Mrs. Wheeler was a member of the Camp Springs Baptist Church and was a former member of the First United Methodist Church of Immokalee where she was involved with the youth and was also a 4-H leader. She and her husband formerly owned and operated Mama B’s Restaurants in Immokalee and Headland. Mrs. Wheeler was preceded in death by three brothers, Robert Rice, Roger Rice, and Carl Michael Rice.
Surviving relatives include her husband, Michael Leo Wheeler, a daughter, Melanie Deal (John), all of Headland; two sons, Shelton Wheeler (Joanie), and Michael Todd Wheeler (Misty), all of Midland City; a sister, Helen Skelton (Stanley), Sikeston, MO; four brothers, Charles Rice (Gracie), Immokalee, FL; Wendell Rice (Susie), LaBelle, FL; Lloyd Rice (Barbara), Houston, MO; and Donald Rice (Patricia), Daleville, AL; two grandchildren, Danielle and John Parker Deal.
Serving as active pallbearers will be Derek Hudson, Joey Deal, Jeff Mims, Glenn Deal, Benjamin Rice, and Patrick Johnson.
