ABBEVILLE. . .Betty Sue Whitehead Gamble, a former resident of the Brown’s Crossroads Community of Henry County, died Monday morning, February 19, 2018, in the Henry County Health & Rehabilitation Facility in Abbeville. She was 83.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, February 21, 2018, in the Camp Springs Baptist Church, near Columbia, with Reverend George Bryan and Dr. Kevin Freeman officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Holman-Headland Mortuary & Cremations is in charge of arrangements. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 P.M. Wednesday in the church sanctuary.
Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to the Camp Springs Cemetery Fund, c/o Sharon Elliott 12039 County Road 53, Columbia, AL 36319.
Mrs. Gamble was born and reared in the Brown’s Crossroad Community of Henry County, daughter of the late Jeff Wood Whitehead and Janie Rebecca Hutto Whitehead. She lived in Henry County most of her lifetime and was a member of the Camp Springs Baptist Church. Mrs. Gamble retired from the Dothan Progress in Headland as a salesperson in advertising. In later years she worked as a grandparent volunteer at Abbeville Elementary School. Mrs. Gamble was preceded in death by her husband, Andrew Morris Gamble, a sister, Myra Nell Ward, and a brother, Billy Whitehead.
Surviving relatives include her brother-in-law, Billy Gamble (June); nieces, Cynthia Baxley (Roger), Debbie Bern (Ricky), Lesa Knowles (Tommy), and Sheila Elliott (Mike); a nephew, Chuck Whitehead; several great-nieces and great-nephews.
Serving as active pallbearers will be Chad Granberry, Dustin Granberry, Grant Granberry, Tim Baxley, Craig Singletary and Larry Elliott. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be the Deacons.
