Betty began her life in Chancellor, AL on January 23, 1934. She was a 1951 graduate of Coffee Springs High School and went to work as a secretary at Camp Rucker and later worked with contractors as it became Ft. Rucker. She married the love of her life, Willie C. Stokes, and moved to Grand Isle, Louisiana where she worked as an air traffic control operator for helicopters. After several years, they moved to Alaska, then Atlanta, GA, and back to Alabama. Her hobbies include gardening, painting, crafts, going to the beach and, most importantly, having her family together for special dinners. “They are the most precious jewels I have”. Christmas was her favorite time for decorating, baking, making homemade candies, cakes and big dinners.
Betty also loved gospel music and was the pianist at El Bethel Church. She was a member of the Enterprise Church of God, where she sang in the choir. She owned and operated her own women’s clothing store named The Lady Locomotive in Geneva, AL. She loved the Lord and her family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Willie C. Stokes; parents, James Olen and Mamie Pearl Whitehead Wilson; sister, Nan Rae Wilson Barnes; brothers, Wallace Wilson and James Wilson.
She leaves behind her daughters, Paula Stokes, Niceville, FL, and Amy Stokes Hudson and son-in-law, Terry Hudson, New Brockton, AL; grandchildren: Zachary C. Mims, Enterprise, Gina Colette Newson, Watertown, NY, Alex D. Hudson, Enterprise, Skylar Christian Bauman, Dothan, AL, Victoria Grace Hudson and Madison Rae Hudson, both of New Brockton; a dear niece, Rita Barnes Hansen, Panama City Beach, FL.
