Betty Wood Pearson Keyton
Betty Wood Pearson Keyton, a resident of Dothan, went home to be with the Lord, Tuesday, November 8, 2011 at her home. She was 82.
Funeral services will be held 3:00 p.m. Saturday, November 12, 2011 at First United Methodist Church with Dr. Jim Sanders, Rev. Allie Freeman, and Rev. Sterling Boykin officiating. Burial will follow in Dothan City Cemetery with Byrd Funeral Home on West Main Street directing. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:45 p.m. Saturday in the church parlor.
Mrs. Keyton was born November 10, 1928 in Enterprise, the only child of Garie and Wood Pearson. She moved to Dothan at an early age and was a 1946 graduate of Dothan High School. She attended Huntington College where she was elected President of the student body and Miss Huntington College her senior year. She taught with Dothan City Schools at Stringer Street Elementary and Grandview Elementary for 25 years prior to her retirement. Mrs. Keyton was a member of First United Methodist Church for 82 years.
She is survived by her husband, John A. Keyton, Jr. of Dothan; one son, Dr. John A. Keyton, III (Christy) of Dothan; two daughters, Elizabeth Garie “Betsy” Keyton and Joyce Keyton Wagner, both of Dothan; ten grandchildren, Kaitlin “Kaitie” Elizabeth Wagner, Rachel Pearson Wagner, John A. Keyton, IV, Matthew Wood Keyton, William Gilbert Keyton, Jordan Thomas Keyton, Mary Elizabeth Keyton, Katherine Joyce Keyton, Pearson Edward Keyton, and Hannah Grace Keyton, all of Dothan; a special granddaughter of the heart, Breyann Jordan of Dothan; a cousin, Dorothy McGill of Jacksonville, FL; a sister-in-law, Betty Keyton Weissinger; numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and other family members.
Serving as pallbearers are Charles Waid, Steadman Shealy, Harry Hall, Manning Sanders, Lawrence Newton, and Jackie Morris. Honorary pallbearers will be the Pathfinders Sunday School Class and Honey’s Lunch Bunch.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to “In Christ’s Name Fund”, c/o First United Methodist Church, 1380 West Main St., Dothan, AL 36301.
