ABBEVILLE. . .Bettye June Doswell Clenney, a resident of Abbeville, died early Wednesday afternoon, July 25, 2018, in a Dothan hospital. She was 88.


  Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, July 28, 2018, in the Calvary Baptist Church with Reverend Teddy Ward officiating. Burial will follow in the Abbeville Memorial Cemetery-East. Holman-Abbeville Mortuary & Cremations is in charge of arrangements. The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 P.M. Friday at the mortuary.


  Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to the Calvary Baptist Church “Children’s or Youth Fund”, 310 Dothan Road, Abbeville, AL 36310.


  Mrs. Clenney was a lifelong resident of Abbeville, daughter of the late Fred Doswell and Clyde Rollins Doswell. She was a 1947 graduate of Abbeville High School and attended Troy University.  Mrs. Clenney was an active member of the Calvary Baptist Church where she was a member of the church choir and taught Sunday School. She retired from the State of Alabama as a Judicial Assistant in Houston and Henry Counties. In earlier years, Mrs. Clenney was employed as a medical secretary in Doctor’s offices in Abbeville. She later worked for her son as a legal secretary. Mrs. Clenney was preceded in death by her husband, Samuel Jackson “Sambo” Clenney, Jr., a sister, Rosemarie Doswell Thames, a brother, Joe Fred Doswell, and a daughter-in-law, Kim Chapman Poitivint.


  Surviving relatives include a daughter, Terry Clenney; a son, Samuel Jackson “Butch” Clenney, III, both of Abbeville; a sister-in-law, Faye Perkins Doswell, a brother-in-law, John A. Thames; two step-grandchildren, Dr. Brittany Poitevint Capps (Mack), and Blake Poitevint; numerous nieces and nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and two great-great-nieces and a great-great-nephew.


  Serving as active pallbearers will be John A. Thames, Chris Thames, Mark Thames, David Doswell, Blake Poitevint and Jonathan Fitzgerald.
