Beverley Gayle Lakes, a resident of Dothan, passed away on Wednesday, June 12, 2019 at her residence. She was 57.
A memorial service will be held at 4 pm on Tuesday, June 18, 2019 at Sunset Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Bob Sanders officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday beginning at 3:30 pm. A homegoing service will be held at 11 am on Monday, June 24, 2019 at Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church in Eatonville, FL.
Mrs. Lakes was born on September 3, 1961 in Bermuda and lived there the early years of her life. She moved to New York in her early teens and following her graduation from August Martin High School in 1978 Beverley joined the United States Air Force. She did her Air Force training in Spokane, Washington. During her time in the Air Force, Beverley served as part of the Military Police. Following her military service, she was employed with the State of Florida as an Auditor for several years. Mrs. Lakes split her residence between Centennial, Colorado and Chicago, IL with her family for 15 years before moving to Dothan in 2018. Mrs. Lakes will be best remembered for loving the Lord, first and foremost, and taking care of her family while also being a mentor to women from her church or women she befriended in a coffee shop line. She was devoted to her grandchildren and never missed a first day of school. She was a member of Soul City Church in Chicago, IL, and Edge Church in Centennial, CO.
Survivors include her husband, Robert Lakes; her sons, Malik Simon and Robert Lakes Jr.; her daughter, Monique Zapata- Kaufman; her four grandchildren, Carter Kaufman, Mia Kaufman, Robert Lakes, III, and Braylon Lakes; her mother, Brenda Hutchins; her brothers, Willie Robertson, Cyrus Ratteray and Coltrane Ratteray; and her sister, Asha Ford.
