DOTHAN, AL… Billie Melvin Nichols Cunningham a resident of Dothan, Alabama, passed away Tuesday morning, January 24, 2023, at her home. She was 97.
Graveside services will be held 1:00 P.M. Saturday, January 28, 2023 at Dothan City Cemetery, with Reverend Dennis Drake officiating. The family will receive friends from 11:00 A.M. until 12:00 P.M. at Wright Funeral Home & Crematory prior to leaving to go to the cemetery.
Mrs. Cunningham was born in Calhoun County, Florida to the late Claude Nichols and Lorraine Dardin Nichols. She lived most of her life in the Dothan, Alabama area. She was a 1943 graduate of Rehobeth High School. She was a member of the Greystone United Methodist Church in Dothan, Alabama.
Along with her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband of 78 years, on January 17, 2023, Charles Clyde Cunningham; her son-in-law, Kim “Rooster” Ethridge; her sisters, Addlia Ward, Dolie Edwards, and Bobbie Quilling; her brother Thurma Nichols; and her brother-in-law, James L. Smith.
Leaving to cherish her memories are her daughters, Patricia McCallister of Dothan, AL and Tami Ethridge (Earl Jones) of Abbeville, AL; her granddaughter, Courtney Ethridge Maddox (Ken Berrentine) of Ariton, AL; her sister, Linda Smith of Columbus, GA; her brother, Johnny Nichols (Jana) of Columbus, GA; and her several nieces and nephews.
