Billie Sue Powell, 85, formerly of Wicksburg passed away Tuesday, October 2, 2012 at Crowne Health Care of Eufaula.


Graveside services will be held 10 am Thursday, October 4, 2012 at Pleasant Ridge Church Cemetery in Samson, AL with Rev. Wendell Holmes officiating and Robert Byrd directing. The family will receive friends from 5-7 pm Wednesday at the funeral home.


Mrs. Powell was born May 29, 1927, in Geneva County and was a 1947 graduate of Geneva High School. She lived in Geneva until moving to Dothan in 1962, where she was employed with Ackwell Industries for 10 years. She has lived in Eufaula for the past 2 years and was a former member of Highland Park United Methodist Church and was a member of Piney Grove Assembly of God Church. Mrs. Powell was preceded in death by her husband Walter Willard Powell, Sr. and a daughter-in-law Janie Powell.


Survivors include her sons, Walter Powell, Jr. of Dothan and Danley (Sharon) Powell of Wicksburg; grandchildren, Jennifer Carroll Powell, Melanie Annette Powell, Brandi Susan (Tom) DeVore, Rebecca Brooke Powell and Michelle (Chris) McLendon; great-grandchildren, Bryce, Blake, Faith and Carrie; a sister Annie Ruth Sasser of Dothan; several nieces and nephews also survive.
