HEADLAND…Billy (B.J.) Drown, a resident of Headland, died Wednesday morning, October 21, 2015, in a Dothan hospital. He was 71.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Friday, October 23, 2015, in the Bethlehem Baptist Church with Reverend Ricky Sowell and Reverend Norman C. Simmons officiating. Graveside services, with military honors, will follow in the Gardens of Memory, between Headland and Dothan. Holman-Headland Mortuary is in charge of arrangements. The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 P.M. Thursday at the mortuary in Headland.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Bethlehem Baptist Church “Challenge To Build” Building Fund, 2506 State Highway 134 East, Headland, Alabama 36345.
Mr. Drown was born in Old Joe, Arkansas and reared in Mountain Home, Arkansas. He served his country in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam era. Mr. Drown lived in Dothan before moving to Headland in 1997. He was a member of the Bethlehem Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon. A Mechanical Engineer, Mr. Drown retired from Twitchell, Inc., and in earlier years, also retired from Flowers Hospital and Westside Terrace. He had also been self-employed as a carpenter. Mr. Drown enjoyed playing the fiddle, guitar, mandolin and the banjo. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Patricia Drown, his father, William Harlin Drown, his mother, Edna Lane Myer, his step-father, Ken Myer, a sister, Barbara Richter and a step-grandson, Coleman Norris.
Surviving relatives include his wife, Jayne Jordan Drown; three sons, Wendall Drown (Sandra), Dalzell, SC; Greg Drown, Columbia, SC; and Billy Drown (Vicki), Panama City, FL; three step-children, Sonja Skipper (Phillip), Headland; Tim Norris, Chattanooga, TN; and Beth Tinnell (Chris), Helena, AL; a sister, Joan DeCoite, Hollywood, CA; two brothers, Ted Drown (Lynn) and Randy Drown, all of Topeka, KS; five grandchildren, Angie, Jordan, Jesse, Dylan and Blake; two great-grandchildren; six step-grandchildren, Kerri, Darcy, Derron, Houston, Hudson and Mattie; a step-great-granddaughter, Chloe; a sister-in-law, Joyce Jarrett (Ewell), Blakely, GA.
Serving as active pallbearers will be the grandsons.
