Billy Clifton Smith, Jr.

Billy Clifton Smith, Jr., affectionately known by all as Billy, passed away suddenly on March 29, 2024, in his hometown of Dothan, Alabama. Born on December 16, 1975, Billy's life was a testament to the love and laughter he brought into the world.

A proud 1994 graduate of Wicksburg High School, Billy went on to dedicate his career to aviation, working as a skilled Helicopter Mechanic with Ft. Novosel, formerly known as Ft. Rucker, with M1. His work was not just a job but a passion, as he was deeply committed to his role and the team he worked alongside.

Billy's life was a beautiful tapestry woven with the love of his family. He is survived by his devoted soul mate and future wife, Brandi Dees, whose companionship brought him immense joy. His son Conner Smith and daughter Jordan Smith, were the center of his universe, and he embraced Brandi's son, Pierce Dees, treating him with the same unconditional love as his own. He was a beloved son to his mother Julie (Tracy) Pippin, and a cherished brother to Heather (Bryan) Hatton, Kristie (Jessie) Cothern, and Ashley Pippin. Other survivors include his former spouse, Mandi Smith, mother of his children, along with several nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his father, Billy Smith, Sr. (Judi Smith), siblings, Stephanie Smith, Lakeisha Johnson, and Nathaniel Smith, his uncles, Jimmy Smith, Johnny Smith, and his aunt, Rose Childree. Billy is preceded in death by his grandparents, Junior Smith and Rosa Lee Smith, Ola Lee Stinson, and by his aunt, Teresa Melvin, his aunt, Lisa Hinson, his aunt, Sara Bowman, and his uncle, Wayne Farmer.

Those who knew Billy understood that his heart was as expansive as the Alabama sky. He was the epitome of kindness and generosity, always considering the needs of others before his own. His considerate and thoughtful nature made him a pillar of support for his loved ones, and he was renowned for being their biggest cheerleader, celebrating their successes with genuine enthusiasm.

He found immense joy in doting over and spoiling his nieces and nephews, Hayes, Anna, Ellie, Addyson, Maddox, and Ruby, showering them with affection and creating cherished memories that will endure for generations. Additionally, Billy was a pillar of support for his daughter, Jordan, throughout her high school and college softball career, cheering her on from the sidelines with unwavering pride. Similarly, he was a devoted father to his son, Conner, nurturing his passion for theater and providing endless encouragement and support for his pursuits at Spark Theater. Billy's legacy of love, support, and kindness will forever live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know him. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered.

Billy's interests were a reflection of his loving spirit. He found solace in the tranquility of fishing at Lawrence Lake with his best friend and cousin, Lee Farmer. His love for Alabama Football was more than just a pastime, it was a passion that sparked joy and camaraderie. "Roll Tide!" was more than a cheer; it was a sentiment that resonated deeply with Billy's vibrant spirit. No family gathering was complete without his mother's homemade banana pudding, which he relished with childlike delight. He enjoyed antiquing with Brandi, and was known for his competitiveness playing games with friends and family.

As we celebrate Billy's life, we remember a man who was the embodiment of love and strength. He was a good father, son, brother, and friend whose presence was a constant source of comfort and happiness. His legacy is one of love, laughter, and the countless lives he touched with his kindness.
