Billy Derl Ammons, a resident of the Echo Community of Dale County, died Saturday morning, December 19, 2015, at his home. He was 84.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 P.M. Tuesday, December 22, 2015, in the New Hope Free Will Baptist Church with Pastor Tim Rabon and Dr. Carl Warden officiating and eulogies to be given by grandsons, Ryan Deaton, Tim Rabon, Jr. and Philip Rabon. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Holman-Headland Mortuary & Cremations is in charge of arrangements. The family will receive friends from 4:30 until 7:00 P.M. Monday at the mortuary in Headland.
Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to the New Hope Free Will Baptist Church, c/o Jo Ann Ammons, 508 County Road 46, Midland City, AL 36350.
Mr. Ammons was a lifelong resident of the Echo community of Dale County, son of the late Z. A. Ammons and Lydia Sewell Ammons. He served his country in the U. S. Army during the Korean War. Mr. Ammons was an active member of the New Hope Free Will Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon and choir director. He was a retired employee of Ansell, Inc.
Surviving relatives include his wife of sixty-five years, Niria Stevens Ammons; three daughters, Cathy Deaton (Doug), Echo Community; Sharon Rabon (Tim), Raleigh, NC; and Jennifer Tharpe (Kyle), Echo Community; two brothers, Jack Ammons, Dothan; and Jerry Ammons (Jo Ann), Echo Community; six grandchildren, Ryan Deaton (Kash), Amanda Gurman (Mike), Tim Rabon, Jr. (Laura), Philip Rabon (Nichole), Joy Edmonds (Chris), and Leah Shirley (Dustin); seven great-grandchildren, Emma and Kade Gurman, Riley and Connor Rabon, Owen and Aubrey Rabon, and Landon Edmonds; a brother-in-law, Bill Stevens (Orlinda); several nieces and nephews,
Serving as active pallbearers will be the grandsons and grandsons-in-law.
