HEADLAND. . .Billy Gene Davis, a resident of Headland, died early Saturday morning, August 3, 2024, in the Henry County Health & Rehabilitation Facility. He was 77.
Memorial services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Monday, August 5, 2024, in the Holman-Headland Mortuary Chapel with Reverend Neil Dodson and Chaplain Ernie Gray officiating. Burial will be in the Headland Methodist Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10:00 until 11:00 A.M. Monday at the mortuary in Headland.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Headland Methodist Cemetery Fund, 103 West King Street, Headland, AL 36345.
Billy Davis was a lifelong resident of Headland, son the late Leslie Monroe Davis and Frances Kelley Davis. He was a 1965 graduate of Headland High School and received an AA Degree from Wallace Community College. Billy received a Bachelor’s Degree and Master’s Degree both from Troy University. He served his country in the Army National Guard in the Abbeville unit. In earlier years, Billy taught at Clayton High School and the Headland Middle School. He formerly owned and operated The Thrift Store in Headland. Billy retired as Superintendent for the Henry County Public School System after four terms. He served as a member of the Headland City Council and the City of Headland Water Board. Billy was a member and officer of several civic organizations. He was a member of the Headland Methodist Church and enjoyed golfing with his buddies. Billy was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Anne Burnham Davis, and her special aunt and uncle, Corene and Woodrow Grantham.
Surviving relatives include two daughters, Betsy Davis Swihart (Steven), and Annie Davis Atwell, a son, Andy Davis (Joy), all of Headland; grandchildren, Haylee Davis Stringer (Nick), Andrew Davis, Ella Parris, Mason Parris, Mason Swihart and Harper Atwell.
The family would like to express their appreciation to SouthernCare Hospice for the loving care and kindness shown to Billy during his illness.
