Billy Green Stokes, age 89, of Cottonwood, passed away Wednesday, March 5, 2014.


Born October 9, 1924 in Henry County to the late Grover Cleveland and Molen Green Stokes, Mr. Stokes was a farmer. Mr. Stokes served his country with the United States Navy. He was also a member of First Assembly of God Church in Madrid and loved to fish. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Juanita Culpepper Stokes; a son, Charles Cleveland Stokes and two brothers, Bertrand Stokes and Benovan Stokes.


Survivors include daughters, Celia (Gary) Russell, Kelley (Rick) Fleming, and Amy Cox; a sister, Violet Hamilton; four grandchildren, Laura Cox, Maggy James, Ethan Fleming, and Hannah Fleming; and other relatives and friends.


Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 8, 2014 at 3 PM from Ward Wilson Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Jerry Harden officiating. Burial will follow at Beulah Baptist Church Cemetery with Ward Wilson Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends Saturday, March 8, 2014 from 1 to 3 PM at the funeral home.


Serving as pallbearers will be Wallace Chumney, Bill Harden, Jim Avery, Sydney Watford, Perry Mac Smith, and John Wayne Livingston.
