HEADLAND. . .Billy Herschel Lingo, a resident of Headland, died late Monday night, January 23, 2012, in the Wesley Manor Retirement Center in Dothan. He was 70.
Graveside services will be held at 1:00 P.M. Wednesday, January 25, 2012, in the Union Springs Baptist Church Cemetery, near Newville, with Reverend Guy Causey officiating. Holman-Headland Mortuary is in charge of funeral arrangements. The family will receive friends following the graveside services.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Union Springs Baptist Cemetery Fund, c/o Josie Whiddon, 359 County Road 145, East, Headland, AL. 36345.
Billy Lingo was born and reared in the Union Springs community of Henry County, son of the late Rufus Harden Lingo and Mary Davis Lingo. He was a 1960 graduate of Newville High School and formerly served in the Army National Guard. Mr. Lingo lived most of his adult lifetime in Headland and was a member of the Union Springs Baptist Church. Billy was retired from the State of Alabama, Forestry Division, as a dispatcher. In later years, he was self-employed as the owner and operator of Bill’s D.J. Service. Billy was preceded in death by a brother, Crawford Darrell Lingo, a sister, Nina Jo Lingo Jones, and a brother-in-law, Jimmy Jones.
Surviving relatives include a daughter, Kimberly Ilgen; a granddaughter, Piper Ilgen, a niece, Penny Jones, Eufaula, AL; nephews, Sandy Jones and wife, Tricia, Dothan, AL; Randy Jones and wife, Ann, Georgetown, GA; three great-nephews, Jarred Jones, Brandon Chancellor and Andrew Champion.
