Billy J. Wilson, a resident of Dothan, AL, passed away on May 15, 2021 at the age of 90. He was born in Coffee County, New Hope community, Alabama on March 2, 1931 to the late Bibb and Addie Pearl Dismuke Wilson. During the course of his life, he lived mainly in Huntsville and Dothan, AL as well as Destin, FL.


Billy was a graduate of Elba High School in Elba, AL. He proudly served in the US Air Force during the Korean Conflict with AF Security in Germany and, later, with the National Security Agency in Washington, D.C. He was a graduate of API/Auburn University with a degree in Electrical Engineering. Billy worked in Huntsville, AL for over 30 years with the U.S. Army Missile Command as an aerospace engineer. He worked for Hughes Aircraft for several years, after retiring from the government.


Billy was predeceased by his wife of 72 years, Martha Sanders Wilson, his high school sweetheart. They loved cheering for the Auburn Tigers together. He was an avid golfer who also enjoyed photography and traveling with Martha.


Billy is survived by his two daughters, Debra (John) Duke and Susan (John) Detwiler; four grandchildren, Kelly (Hampton), Jennifer (Will), Jack and Emily; and two great-grandchildren Kate and Liam. He is also survived by his sister, Jimmie Robinson and several nieces and nephews.


A private burial will be at Roeton Baptist Church Cemetery in Brundidge with Rev. Lynn Smilie Nesbitt of First United Methodist Church officiating and Sunset Memorial Park Funeral Home directing.


Donations may be made to the Roeton Baptist Church, 6320 County Road 110, Brundidge, AL 36010, in lieu of flowers.
