Billy Jack Waid, 63, a resident of Dothan passed away Saturday, December 13, 2014 at his residence.
Military Honors will be rendered 2:00 p.m. Sunday, December 21, 2014 at Sunset Memorial Park with Robert Byrd directing. The family will receive friends from 1-2:00 p.m. at Sunset Funeral Home. Flowers are being accepted or memorial donations may be made to Children's Hospital of Alabama, 1600 7th Ave South, Birmingham, AL, 35233, or to the Salvation Army, 1001 S. Bell St., Dothan, AL, 36301.
Mr. Waid was born September 27, 1951 in Hartselle, Morgan County, AL and spent the early part of his life there and in Montgomery. He served for 20 years in the Air Force Reserve as a member of the 908th Combat Support at Maxwell Air Force Base. He was also employed with Brockway Glass Company for several years in Montgomery. He moved to Dothan in 1990 and was employed for several years as a dispatcher for various trucking companies until his retirement. Mr. Waid was a well-known regular customer at the SAMC Waffle House and also served his community as a volunteer with the Salvation Army and as a Santa Claus in the pediatric wards at local hospitals.
Survivors include his wife Jane Lett Waid; a daughter, Wendy Waid (Don) Allman; grandchildren, PFC Wyatt Jones (USMC), Zak Allman, Nicolas Allman, Caitlyn Allman, Jaaron Allman, Dorian Allman, Isaac Stevenson, and Ashley Stevenson; his mother Myrtle R. Waid; brothers, Karl Waid and Winfrid Waid; a sister Norma (Ben) Moncrief; several nieces and nephews.
