Billy Joe Jackson
Billy Joe “Bill” Jackson, a resident of Dothan, died Thursday, October 31, 2013 at Southeast Alabama Medical Center. He was 82.
Funeral services will be held 3:00 p.m. Saturday, November 2, 2013 at First Presbyterian Church with The Rev. Rob Oates and The Rev. Bob Baxter officiating. Entombment will follow in Memory Hill Cemetery with Byrd Funeral Home on West Main Street directing. The family will receive friends at the church from 1:00 -2:45 p.m. Saturday prior to the service.

Box 116284, Atlanta, GA 30368, Palmer Home for Children, P.O. Box 746, Columbus, MS 39703, or Alzheimer’s Resource Center, P.O. Box 1170, Dothan, AL 36302.
Mr. Jackson was born May 7, 1931 in Dothan and graduated from Dothan High School. He served in the U.S. Army for three years during WWII and retired from the Air National Guard. He attended King College in Bristol, TN. Mr. Jackson worked for General Telephone Company for several years and was later employed by the FBI in Washington, D.C. and the U.S. Postal Service from which he retired.
He was an active and lifelong member of First Presbyterian Church where he served as Deacon, Elder, Sunday School Teacher, and Treasurer and went on several short-term mission trips. He was also a member of Dothan Boat Club at Compass Lake, FL where he was very active for many years. Mr. Jackson was an avid Auburn football fan.
He is preceded in death by his parents, John Will and Jessie B. Jackson; two brothers, John Owens Jackson and Henry Green Jackson; and a brother-in-law, Harry L. O’Neal, Jr.
Survivors include his son, Tim Jackson (Susan) of Pinson, AL; his daughter, Brenda Harris of Glennville, GA; two granddaughters, Mallory Jackson of Casa Grande, AZ and Cheyenne Jackson of Wilsonville, OR; one grandson, Travis Jackson of Casa Grande, AZ; one sister, Jessie O’Neal of Dothan; two brothers, Herbert Jackson (Mary Jean) of Dothan and Charles Jackson (Frances) of Newville, AL; three sisters-in-law, Melba Jackson of Dothan, Ann Jackson of Dothan, and Jeri Jackson of Greenville, NC; several nieces and nephews who were very special to him.
Serving as active pallbearers will be Chuck Jackson, Fred Hanners, Gary Hughes, Rickey Hayes, John Jackson, and Greg Jackson.
