Billy Joe Thompson, a resident of Midland City, died Saturday morning, November 14, 2015, in a Dothan hospital. He was 77.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M Monday, November 16, 2015, in the Holman-Headland Mortuary Chapel with Reverend Winston Jay officiating and a eulogy to be given by a grandson, Brandon York. Burial will follow in Gardens of Memory. The family will receive friends from 3:00 until 5:00 P.M. Sunday at the mortuary in Headland.
Mr. Thompson was born near Pansey, and reared in Henry County, son of the late Mager Taft Thompson and Annie Mae Woods Thompson. He was formerly employed by Wells Tractor Company, in Dothan, and Wallace Community College as farm manager. Mr. Thompson was preceded in death by an infant son, Tommy Joe Thompson, two grandchildren, Shawn Burkett and Chris Manning, three brothers, Rex Thompson, Hayward Thompson, and Gene Thompson, and two sisters, Irelle Ramage and Macellen Hughes.
Surviving relatives include his wife, Mildred Newman Thompson; five daughters, Stephanie Brooks (Wayne), Susan Burkett (Brian Henderson), all of Dothan; Connie Miller and Brenda Nguyen (Hoang), all of Panama City; Deborah Lane (Mark), Atlanta; a son, Johnny Lee (Amanda), Dothan; two sisters, Vivian Hicks, Dothan, and Martha Lois McDaniel, Headland; two brothers, Johnny Thompson (Eleanor), Headland; and Dennis Thompson, Kinsey; eleven grandchildren; several great-grandchildren.
