Billy Royce “Rowdy” Yates passed away surrounded by his loved ones on September 11, 2021. He was 84 years old.
Funeral services will be held at the First Baptist Church of Samson at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 15, 2021. Burial will follow in Travelers Rest cemetery with Warren Holloway Ward Funeral Home of Geneva directing. Visitation will be held in the church sanctuary on Wednesday beginning at 12:00 p.m. In accordance with his wishes to keep everyone safe, please wear a mask. Rev. Sam Totten will officiate, and Rev. Drew Yates will deliver the eulogy.
Mr. Yates is preceded in death by his wife, Shelby Jean Yates, his brothers, Gene Yates (Gaynell) and Tony Yates (Katie).
He is survived by his daughters, Teresa Yates and Joy Yates (Terry) of Samson; son, Bill Yates, Jr. (Cindy) of Spanish Fort, AL; grandchildren include Drew Yates (Kim) of Adel, GA, Troy McDougald of Birmingham, Trevor McDougald of Samson, and Alyssa McKinley (Kyle) of Thomasville, AL; his brother, Roy Yates (Doris); sister, Barbara Adams, both of Samson; five great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins also survive Mr. Yates
Mr. Yates was born on March 12, 1937, and raised in Samson, Alabama. His parents were the late Lily and Aubrey Yates. He graduated from Samson High School and worked at Fort Rucker for 40 years as an aircraft mechanic. After retiring, he enjoyed cruises with Shelby, fishing Black Creek, Alabama football, and dancing. Mr. Yates was a member of the First Baptist Church of samson, AL. the family would like to thank Kindred Home Health and the staff at Wiregrass Medical Center of Geneva for the professional and compassionate care of their loved one.
