Bobby A. Newman, 82, of Dothan, died yesterday at home after a long illness.
Mr. Newman is survived by his wife, Doris Pittman Newman, his children, Robert “Vince”Newman (Jan), step-children, Teresa Pittman-Wall, Jackie Davis, Barbara Sloan, Cathy Patterson, Brant Davis and a brother, Jack Newman.
He is predeceased by his brothers, Cecil Newman, Jr., Darrell Newman, and a step-daughter, Rita Davis. He also leaves behind three grandchildren, Conor and Addie Newman, William Pittman Wall (April).
Bobby is an airborne veteran of Korea, Thailand, and Granada as well as three tours in the Vietnam War where he served first in the Special Forces and later as a pilot of Hueys and Black Hawks.
Among his many military honors he was awarded the “Legion of Merit” which is usually reserved for foreign soldiers for service to the United States, generals and flag officers. The discipline and patriotism he learned in the military never left him. He considered it an honor and privilege to serve his country.
