DOTHAN. . .Bobby D. Baker, a resident of Dothan, passed away, Wednesday night, March 27, 2024, at his home. He was 73.


            A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, April 6, 2024, in the Holman-Headland Mortuary Chapel with Reverend Joey Hudspeth officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00 P.M. until 2:00 P.M. Saturday at the mortuary in Headland.


            In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.


            Bobby Baker was born and reared in the Texasville Community of Barbour County, son of the late Bob Steven Baker and Emma Valeria Carroll Baker. He lived in Dothan most of his adult lifetime. Bobby was a 1968 graduate of Abbeville High School where he played football and was a member of the 1966 State Championship Football Team. He received a B. S. Degree in Education from Auburn University and a Masters Degree in Education Administration from Troy University in Dothan. Bobby retired as Principal of Miller County Elementary School in Colquitt, GA. In earlier years, he served as Superintendent of Education of the Barbour County School System. Bobby also formerly served as Transportation Director for the Dothan City School System. He was of the Baptist faith.


            Surviving relatives include his wife, Vicki Harris Baker; a daughter, Kelli Hulvey (Justin), Gulf Shores, AL; three sons, Kyle Baker and Kip Baker, both of Dothan; and Cole Redmon, Tampa, FL; a sister, Carol Baker (Larry Embrey), Eufaula; a brother, Chris Baker, Eufaula; grandchildren, Grayson Hulvey, Tristan Hulvey, Presley Kate Hulvey and Kyla Baker; brothers-in-law, Preston Skinner (Julia Shelton), and Kent Skinner (Donna); numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.  


            Bobby especially loved his lifelong friends of the Abbeville High School Class of 1968. The have remained close throughout the years. He also has dear friends from his fraternity at Auburn University.


            Special love and appreciation to the staff of Gentiva Hospice who have taken such good care of Bobby. He so loved his nurse, Kaitlin Sketo, and Joey Hudspeth, his chaplain and brother.
