   Bobby Harold Davis, Blakely, Early County, Georgia, joined his parents and six siblings in eternal life on May 12, 2014. He was born in Coffee County, AL on April 8, 1933, was the son of the late Effie and David Davis. His siblings were James Davis, Alcus Davis, Gladys Davis, Merle Stephenson, Vera Whitehurst, and Agnes Stinson.


   In 1963, Bobby married Duane Mellette of Early County beginning 51 years of friendship and love. His blessed daughters are Laura Lynn (Jimmy) Crouch of Duluth, GA and Valerie (David) Pitchford of Headland, Al.  Grandchildren include, Davis Crouch, Abby Crouch, Callie Crouch, Camille Pitchford, Thomas Pitchford, and William Pitchford.  He cherished his role as husband and father and reveled in his role as grandfather.


   Bobby graduated from Kinston HS, AL, and Troy State College, Troy, AL and earned his master’s degree from Peabody College, Nashville, TN. He was a gifted athlete and played basketball in high school, college, and the US army. He served a combined total of 35 years in helping the young people of Early County School System and Southwest Georgia Academy develop their full potential. 


   During his 30 years with the Early County School System, he served in positions of teacher, basketball coach of boys and girls, DCT coordinator, VICA sponsor and Vocational director. Bobby was a demanding, however, loved educator who taught lessons for success that lasted long beyond the classroom, office, and basketball court.


   Mr. Davis was a member and past president of the Blakely Lion’s Club. Other affiliations include the PH Fitzgerald, Post Chapter Eleven of American Legion, and the ECC Retired Teacher’s Association. A member of Zion Free Will Baptist Church, Sowhatchee Community, Mr. Davis served as a past deacon and Sunday School Superintendent.


   A private family graveside service will be held in the Sowhatchee Cemetery at 11:30 A.M., Wednesday, May 14, 2014 with the Reverend Rick Smith officiating. Active pallbearers are his grandsons, Davis Crouch, Thomas Pitchford, and William Pitchford and sons in law, Jimmy Crouch and David Pitchford.  A Celebration of Life will follow in the afternoon at 5:00 P. M. at Zion Free Will Baptist Church.  The Reverends Duane Littlefield and William Smith, and Dr. Alex Howell will officiate. Visitors will be received in the Fellowship Hall beginning at 4 PM until 4:50 PM and then again after the Celebration of Life service back in the Fellowship Hall.


   Memorials are suggested to benefit the Memorial Fund of Zion Free Will Baptist Church, 856 Zion Road, Blakely, Ga. 39823 or Gentiva Hospice, 432 Shotwell Street, Bainbridge, GA 39819.


   Honorary pallbearers are Mickey Alexander, Milton Anderson, Arthur Brackin, Jeffrey Brackin, Mike Ellis, Ralph Ellis, Roscell Ellis, Earvin Evans, Terrry Ferguson, Eddie “George” Johnson, Perry Jarrett, Aldine Owen, William Powell, David Still, James Weaver, Ronnie Willis, Members of the Lions Club, American Legion, Morning Coffee Club and former VICA members/athletes.
