BOBBY  RAY  FARMER


 


COLUMBIA…Bobby Ray Farmer, a resident of County Road 106, Columbia, went home to be with the Lord, Monday, July 9, 2012, after a courageous battle with lung cancer. He was 75.


            Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, July 11, 2012, in the Holman Headland Mortuary Chapel with Reverend Ron Baker and Reverend Norman C. Simmons officiating. Burial will follow in the Balkum Cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, at the mortuary in Headland. At other times, the family will be at the home of a daughter, Pollie Braswell, 510 Mitchell Street, Headland.


            Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, Attn: Memorial Chairperson, P.O. Box 2123, Dothan, AL. 36305.


            Mr. Farmer was born in Headland and reared in Lutherville, Georgia. He served in the 101st Airborne at Ft. Campbell, Kentucky. Mr. Farmer returned to Headland in 1966 and was self-employed as a painter and roofer most of his adult lifetime. He was a member of the Hebron Baptist Church. Mr. Farmer was preceded in death by his father, Herbert H. Farmer, a son Donald Ray Farmer, a sister, Jane Griffis and his step-mother, Lorene Farmer.



            Surviving relatives include his wife, Lavon Shelley Farmer, Columbia; four daughters, Tammy Farmer, Teresa (Pollie) Braswell and husband, Jason, all of Headland; Elaine Graves and husband, Marshall, Graceville, Florida and Kathy Adams, Atlanta, Georgia; his mother Mary Elizabeth Smith, Bainbridge, Georgia; four half-brothers, Luke Smith, Gene Smith, Matt Smith and Herbert Farmer; thirteen grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and a special cousin, Shirley Hammons, Griffin, Georgia.



            Serving as active pallbearers will be Trey Windham, Trevor Windham, Ben Graves, Jason Braswell, Marshall Graves and Teddy Shelley.  Serving as honorary pallbearers will be the Men’s Sunday school class of Hebron Baptist Church.



          The family would like to express a special thank you to Gentiva Hospice and Southeast Alabama Home Health Care for the loving care and kindness shown to Bobby during his illness.
