HEADLAND. . .Bonnie Gilbert Willis, a resident of Headland, died early Friday morning, May 27, 2016, in the Henry County Health & Rehabilitation Facility in Abbeville. She was 92.


            Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, May 28, 2016, in the Worship Center of the First Baptist Church of Headland with Dr. Cecil M. Sanders, Jr. and Reverend Norman C. Simmons officiating. Burial will follow in Gardens of Memory. Holman-Headland Mortuary & Cremations is in charge of arrangements. The family will receive friends from 12:30 until 2:00 P.M. Saturday in the Worship Center.


            In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church of Headland, 301 East Church Street, Headland, AL 36345.


            Mrs. Willis was born and reared in the Wills Crossroads Community of Henry County where she attended the Old Zion School and was a member of the 1938 girls championship basketball team.  She was a resident of Headland since 1938 where she was an active member of the First Baptist Church and volunteered in the church library.  Mrs. Willis was an avid Atlanta Braves fan. She was retired from the Henry County Board of Education as a Teacher’s Aide at the Headland Elementary School. In earlier years, she was employed by Edd’s Place in Headland. Mrs. Willis was preceded in death by her father, Bill Oates Gilbert, her mother, Hattie Jones Gilbert, her husband, William W. Willis, and three sisters, Jimmie Granberry, Lucy B. Smith and Ruth Cummings.


            Surviving relatives include her son, William Marc Willis, Birmingham; nieces and nephews, Donna Skipper, Deanna Tatom, Kathy Shirah, Perry Dale Granberry, Bill G. Granberry, Billy Whitehead and Ronnie Dodson.


            The family would like to express their appreciation to special caregiver and friend, Kathy Tucker, the ladies who visited , and all the staff of the Henry County Health & Rehabilitation Facility for the loving care and kindness shown Mrs. Willis during her illness.
