Bruce Lee Commander of Westville, FL passed away on Thursday, August 8, 2024. He was 92 years old.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, August 12, 2024, in the chapel of Warren Holloway Ward Funeral Home in Geneva, AL with Bro Cliff Foster officiating. Burial will follow in the Poplar Head Cemetery with Warren Holloway Ward Funeral Home of Geneva directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday beginning at 10:00 a.m.

Bruce was born in Holmes County, FL on August 13, 1931, to the late J.D. and Julia Lee Huggins Commander. Bruce proudly served his county in the Korean War where he was wounded in combat. He later received the distinguished Purple Heart award for the injuries he sustained. Bruce enjoyed raising cattle and spending time on his farm. 

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Virginia Sasser Commander; brothers, Shelley, Buck, Hickman, Rex, and Carlton Commander; three sisters, Ruth Owens, Jean Smith, and Billie Commander.

He is survived by his wife, Evelyn Commander of Westville, FL; one son, Calvin Commander of Westville, FL; one daughter, Janet Posadas (Rafael) of Nederland, TX; six grandchildren, Brandon Commander (Lisa) of Westville, FL, Hilary Swierc (Jason) of Charlotte, NC, Zackary Commander (Sara) of Westville, FL, Eric Posadas (Cecilia) of Missouri City, TX, Vianna Posadas of Nederland, TX, and Bractin Commander of Westville, FL; five great grandchildren, Emily Commander, Morgan Post, Cade Commander, Bruce Commander, and Mary Commander; one brother, Coleman Commander (Pauline) of Pensacola, FL.
