Bruce Richards, age 78 of Dothan, passed away early Friday morning, September 18, 2020, at his home under the care of Kindred Hospice and surrounded by his loving family.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at 11am Tuesday, September 22, 2020 in the chapel at Family First Funeral Care with Dr. Ricky Plummer officiating. Burial will follow in the Memory Hill cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5pm until 7pm Monday evening at the funeral home. Social distancing guidelines are to be observed and masks are required under state mandate.
Bruce was born March 23, 1942 in Dale County to the late John Esker and Kathleen Bruce Richards. He lived the early years of his life in the Sylvan Grove community before moving to the Hodgesville community, where he lived the remainder of his life. Bruce worked with Ansell Corporation for over 26 years before he semi-retired. Not one to sit around, he began working as a machinist. He enjoyed working on cars and doing small engine repair. He had a love for horses, owning several, and at one time was known for providing horse carriage rides for weddings and special events for many years. Bruce was a long-time member of Bethel Baptist Church.
Survivors are his wife of 32 years, Diane Richards of Dothan (Hodgesville community); his children, Rodney (Sheila) Richards of Bonifay, FL, Tami Wilkerson (Jason Thomas) of Headland, Brad (Debbie) Richards, Rehobeth, Kyle Richards, Dothan, Kelly (Chris) Mobley of Headland, Gene (Lindsey) McConnell of Taylor and Kristina (William) Hobbs of Dothan. Also surviving are 16 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
The family would like to express a special thank you to Kindred Hospice and nurses Karen, Amy, and Rebecca.
Pallbearers will be grandsons and Tony Wilkerson will serve as an Honorary Pallbearer.
