Bruner Rollin Dicus of Enterprise, AL, passed away Saturday, December 10, 2011, at his home.  He was 86.



            Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM, Wednesday, December 14, 2011, at Searcy Funeral Home and Crematory Chapel.  Burial will follow in Meadowlawn Cemetery with Searcy Funeral Home and Crematory directing.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday from 12 Noon until service time.  Memorials may be made to:  Shriner’s Hospital Burn Center, Office of Development, 2900 Rocky Point Drive, Tampa, FL 33607; Enterprise Rotary Club Jerry B. Dicus Foundation, 201 Aaron Drive, Enterprise, AL 36330; or Enterprise YMCA, PO Box 310700, Enterprise, AL 36331-0700.


             Mr. Dicus was born on October 1, 1925, in Baltimore, MD to Fletcher and Hazel Dicus.  He was the youngest of five children.  He attended Glen Burnie High School, the University of Baltimore and the University of Maryland.


             Bruner started his professional career working for the Social Security Administration.  He later served in the US Merchant Marines and worked for Davison Chemical Company, R.J. Loch & Company, and Washington Aluminum Company.  In 1970, he moved from Maryland to Enterprise, Alabama and co-founded Alfab, Inc., a custom metal fabricating company.



            He was past-president of Rotary Clubs in Arbutus, MD, Ellicot City, MD, and the Enterprise Rotary Club where he was past Rotarian of the Year, a three-time Paul Harris Fellow, and a Jerry B. Brunson Fellow.  He served multiple years on the board of directors of the Enterprise YMCA, including consecutive years as president.  Governor Fob James appointed him to serve on the board of directors of the Comprehensive Employment and Training Act (CETA) commission.  He was also a past president of the Doer Shrine Club.


             Mr. Dicus was preceded in death by his parents, Fletcher and Hazel Dicus; 3 brothers, Fletcher, Donald and Warren Dicus; and a sister, Mary Wagner.


             Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Barbara Dicus, Enterprise, AL; 3 children, Barbara Dicus Hickman (John), Enterprise, AL, Dan Dicus (Lara), Enterprise, AL, Sarah Dicus Drennen (Clint), Enterprise, AL; 6 grandchildren, Johnny Hickman (Jennifer) Enterprise, AL, Jill Hickman Foley (Dave), Keller, TX, Parker Drennen, Daniel Dicus, Claire Drennen and Jacob Dicus, all of Enterprise, AL; 2 great-grandsons, Tyler Hickman and John David Foley; brother, Howard Dicus, Gambrills, MD; numerous nieces and nephews.
