Barney J. Guga, a resident of Enterprise, Alabama (formerly of Rockford, Illinois), passed away on Sunday, April 7, 2013. He was 92.


            Barney served in the U.S. Navy during World War II from 1942 - 1945. He was awarded 8 bronze stars and one silver star, while serving on the USS Wainwright and the battleship USS New Jersey (BB-62) in the Pacific, Atlantic, and the Mediterranean. You would frequently see Barney proudly wearing his USS New Jersey cap and he would eagerly start telling you about the Navy and Admiral Halsey. He married Gloria in 1946 where they lived in Rockford, Illinois. Barney worked in manufacturing until he retired in 1972 and was a prolific inventor. They moved to Enterprise in 1997. Barney loved cats but mostly loved the outdoors and gardening. He had many large gardens.  Barney was happy to be a member of the local congregation of Jehovah Witnesses.


            Barney was preceded in death by his parents, John and Anna Guga; his brother, Andrew Guga; his sister, Ann Guga, daughter, Gloria Anne Guga and his son-in-law, David Newburg.


            Survivors include his wife, Gloria, Enterprise; daughters, Nancy Newburg , Albuquerque, NM and Kathy Nelson and her husband, Walter, Enterprise; son, Jeff Guga, Los Angeles, CA; grand children, Kristine Neilson (Coray), Henderson, NV and Michael Hillis, Jr., Enterprise; and two great grand daughters, Emma and Grace Neilson, Henderson, NV.


            The family would like to thank the many caregivers that so kindly and lovingly assisted in his care.
