Buford Lamond Hughes
Buford Lamond Hughes, 88, lifelong resident of Cottonwood, passed away peacefully on May 13, 2012.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 15, 2012 at Cottonwood Methodist Church with the Rev. Bruce Johnson officiating. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to service time on Tuesday. Burial with military honors will follow at Gardens of Memory Cemetery with Byrd Funeral Home directing. Flowers are being accepted or memorials may be made to Cottonwood Methodist Church.
Lamond was born on February 10, 1924 in Houston County. He was a graduate of Cottonwood High School and Troy Teachers College. He served in the Army Air Corps in World War II, and taught at Columbia High School. In 1950, he was appointed Postmaster at Cottonwood where he served for 36 years prior to his retirement. Mr. Hughes was a member of Cottonwood Methodist Church. He dearly loved his family, friends, and his community. A true gentleman of great faith, he led a life of honor and integrity.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Susie Roland Hughes of Cottonwood; his children, Ellen and Fred Wilson of Tyler, Texas, Jimmy and Linda Hughes of Wetumpka, and Suzanne and Bart Adams of Montgomery; 5 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren; brother and sisters-in-law, James and Sylvia Hughes and Ann Hughes; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceeded in death by his parents, Will and Lena Hughes; his siblings, Ruby Lee Cravey, Blonnie Whitehead, Odell Hughes, Ernestine Lewis, Hubert Hughes, and Willadean Stokes.
