Burl Mercer, 85, of Dothan, Alabama, passed away on July 6 at Wesley Place on Honeysuckle.
Funeral services will be held at 1 pm on Saturday July 8, 2017 at Sunset Memorial Park Funeral Home with Bro. Philip A. Baker officiating. Burial will follow in Gardens of Memory Cemetery with Robert Byrd directing. The family will receive friends from 12-1 pm on Saturday.

Mr. Mercer was born September 20, 1931. He grew up in Hartford, Alabama, but resided in Dothan most of his life where he owned Burl Mercer Surveying Company for many years. He was a member of the Dothan Elks Lodge #1887 for 53 years. He enjoyed playing golf and was an avid Auburn fan. Burl was a member of Old Webb Road Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia Mercer.
Survivors include one daughter, Margaret (Rodney) Hendrix of Hartford; one stepson, John Mercer of San Francisco; one stepdaughter, Arlene Lokey of Dothan; four grandchildren, Jenny (Al) Gilmore, Elizabeth (Wade) Rainer, Wesley (Robyn) Rowell, Joshua (Kelly) Rowell; and 4 great-grandchildren; a special sister-in-law, Judith Price and sister-in-law, Jean Woodruff.
The family would like to say a special thanks to the staff at Wesley Place on Honeysuckle (Wesley Manor) for the excellent care they have given.
