Calvin “Roy” Chappell, age 90, of Dothan, Alabama, passed away at home on September 20, 2024.
Roy was born February 18, 1934 to Rev. Simmie and Pearlie Chappell in Florida, one of ten children. He served his country in the U.S. Army. He founded and operated Alabama Radiator and Auto Electric in Dothan, serving the community for decades.
When not spending time with his wife of 65 years, Christine, and family, he was often found helping others, fishing, gardening, working out at the gym, spending time with friends, baking, or restoring antique vehicles. He was a devoted husband and father and is survived by loving family. He quietly served wherever he saw a need, always thinking of others above himself. He will be remembered for his endless selflessness, his absolute honesty, his genuine kindness, his sense of fun, and his deep love for family and friends.
Despite battling pancreatic cancer and serious consequences resulting from pancreatic cancer surgery in 2023, he was always optimistic and upbeat, always “doing good." His understated humor brought smiles and joy to all who interacted with him. And through it all, he continued to focus on others around him. His absolute commitment to, and faith in, God and Jesus Christ always will be a powerful example to all who knew him. He was a dedicated member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.
A viewing will be held at Ward -Wilson Funeral Home 2414 Hartford Hwy in Dothan, AL, on Tuesday, September 24, 2024, from 5:00 until 7:00 pm. A funeral service to celebrate Roy's life will be held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 3199 Ross Clark Circle in Dothan, AL, on Wednesday, September 25, 2024, at 11:00 am, with a short viewing at the church from 10-10:45 am. Burial service will follow immediately thereafter at Memory Hill Cemetery, 2414 Hartford Hwy in Dothan, AL.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in honor of Roy Chappell to The Gabriel House of Care, an organization that provides loving care and a home away from home for cancer and transplant patients, or The American Cancer Society.
