Captain Floyd Ethel Taylor, USMC (Retired), age 89, of Dothan passed away peacefully on Monday, June 17, 2024, in Dothan, AL. Born September 29, 1934, in Lyons, MS to the late Frank Taylor and Clara Mae Smithers.


Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 22, 2024, at 2 PM in the Ward Wilson Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Memory Hill Cemetery with Ward Wilson Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 1- 2 PM. There will be a reception following at St. Matthias Anglican Church (108 O’Brannan Park Drive, Dothan.)


Floyd married his high school sweetheart, Barbara Morris, in 1953. They had the honor of being married 63 years before her passing in 2016. Together, they created a beautiful life. Floyd retired after serving 30 years active duty in the United States Marine Corps. He loved his family and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. His gentle soul will truly be missed.


Floyd is survived by his daughters, Debra Jean Smith (Michael) and Kristi Taylor; his sons, Randall Shands Taylor, David Scott Taylor (Linda), and Gregory Stephen French, Jr.; his grandchildren, Zachary Ryan Smith, Shane Michael Smith,  Felicia Victoria LaClair (Carlos), Veronica Paige Taylor, Victoria Ashley Taylor, and Mark Alexander Govoni; his great-grandchildren, Fallon Smith, Finch Smith, Fifer Smith, Freya Smith, Maximus Carlos Vega, and Cayden Taylor Resko; numerous other relatives and friends.


In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Toys for Tots through the Wiregrass Marine Corps League 752, PO Box 656, Daleville, AL 36322. The Toys for Tots program was something very near and dear to Floyd and Barbara and they spent countless hours helping bring joy to the children of the Wiregrass area.
