DOTHAN. . .Carey James Vinson, a resident of Dothan, died Friday morning, January 27, 2023, at his home. He was 91.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 P.M. Sunday, January 29, 2023, in the Holman-Headland Mortuary Chapel with Jearald Vinson and Terry Shuyler officiating. The family will receive friends from 2:00 until 3:00 P.M. Sunday at the mortuary.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105
Mr. Vinson was born in Midland City and was reared in Houston County in the Cottonwood area. He served his country in the U. S. Navy during the Korean War. Mr. Vinson lived in Los Angeles, California thirty years before moving to Dothan in 1981. He was retired from Montgomery Ward in Dothan as a building manager. In earlier years, Mr. Vinson was employed by Lear Siegler, Inc and Hughes Tool Company, both aircraft manufacturing companies in Los Angeles. He was of the Baptist faith. Mr. Vinson was preceded in death by his parents, Gordon Carey Vinson and Willie Ruth Seay Vinson, and a sister, Barbara Creamer.
Surviving relatives include his wife, Alberta McCraney Vinson, a daughter, Brenda Kay Vinson, Dothan; a son, James Edward Vinson; a step-daughter, Geraldine Lewis (DeWayne), Dothan; a sister, Rebecca Saunders (Jimmy), Dothan; a brother, Jearald Vinson (Annette), Dothan; grandchildren, Jason Littlefield, Andy Littlefield (Sara), Elizabeth Nicholas (Ray), Rachel Payne, and a step-granddaughter, Traci Jackson (Lance); four great-grandchildren.
