Carl Cooper Brown of Ashford, AL passed away on Monday, December 11, 2017 at the family residence. He was 92 years old.
A graveside service with full military honors will be held on Saturday, December 16, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at Crestlawn Cemetery in Ashford with Rev. Phillip Durr officiating and Warren Holloway Ward Funeral Home of Geneva directing.
Mr. Brown was born on March 12, 1925 in Alexander City, AL to the late Marcus Herzfield and Lillian Odessa Haynes Brown. Mr. Brown entered into the United States Marine Corps on May 19, 1942 and went through Boot Camp (Platoon 420) at MCRD in San Diego, CA. He was shipped overseas in October of 1942, and assigned to MAD-25 (New Caldonia). He returned to the United States in July of 1944, and was discharged on May 18, 1946. He reenlisted on December 15, 1947, and was transferred to the Fleet Marine Corps in December of 1963 with the rank of Master Sergeant. After his military career, he went to work for Cadillac Controls in Newport Beach, CA. In his spare time he loved gardening and genealogy research.
He was preceded in death by four brothers, Wilmot (Coach) of Ashford, Al., Aubrey of Alexander City, Al., Harlan of Memphis, Tn., and Burl of Decatur, Ga. All were veterans of World War II.
He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Nickey Yoneda Brown of Ashford; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
