MIDLAND CITY. . .Carl Eugene Scoggins, Sr., a resident of Midland City, died Tuesday, November 21, 2023, at his home. He was 89.
Graveside services will be held at 1:00 P.M. Monday, November 27, 2023, in the Abbeville Memorial Cemetery-East with Reverend George Bryan officiating. Holman-Abbeville Mortuary & Cremations is in charge of arrangements. The family will receive friends 11:30 A.M. until 12:30 P.M. Monday at the mortuary in Abbeville.
Mr. Scoggins was born in Myrtlewood, Alabama and moved to Jackson, Mississippi at an early age. He served his country in the U. S. Navy during the Korean War. Mr. Scoggins formerly lived in Abbeville before moving to Midland City in 1976. He was retired from Pemco Aeroplex at Napier Field as an Aircraft Painter after thirty years employment. Mr. Scoggins was a former member of the American Legion, V.F.W. and the Masonic Order. He was a member of the Abbeville Methodist Church. Mr. Scoggins was preceded in death by his parents, Marvin and Ima Lammers Scoggins, a brother, Bryant Edward Scoggins, a sister, Annis Brooks and a grandson, Carl Anson Scoggins.
Surviving relatives include a daughter, Amanda Scoggins Mathis, Daleville, AL; a son, Carl E. Scoggins, Jr. (Janet), Gardendale, AL; two sisters, Betty Farmer and Patsy Smith, both of Abbeville; a brother, Johnny Scoggins, Columbia; grandchildren, Lana Scoggins, Aaron Mathis, Ashley Mathis, Aubry Mathis and Aleece Mathis; six great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
